My Win95 disk was severely damaged so I bought a replacement at an auction on Ebay. When I tried to install it to my computer, it stopped dead shortly after startup. I noticed on the WIN 95 cd it says "COMPANION", which my old
CD didn't. Does COMPANION mean that it's programed only to work with certain computers??? Microsoft supplied Win95 to be sold ONLY with new computers, so I was wondering if that's why my computer won't take it. Does anyone out there know what COMPANION means on a Win95 CD disk?

Sounds like you got ripped off just like I did on eBay. I bought a copy of WFW(g)311 and when I got it it was an "add-on" or upgrade only. Luckily I had a copy of WIN 3.1 to upgrade with it, so I was okay, but I thought I was buying a full version. Also, I started getting emails with the Klez virus until I closed my eBay account. I'm convinced someone is using the usernames or handles off of eBay and sending viruses to them. I won't buy anything else from eBay. You are buying a "pig-in-a-poke". Jim

Thanks for your help. It's even worse than I thought. Obviously, I was ripped off. That CD costs me over $30. Not to have the setup file on the disk is really sneaky and the seller had to have known that. No more EBay for me.
