I have not verified the presence of the "runtime extended" (a basic set of DLLs and OCXs preinstalled in Vista & Win7) yet. However the runtime core components are there and programs run fine.

This doesn't mean the eventual RTM Win8 will have them, but it is a good sign.

Definitely good news - although I'm guessing that acces to the new interface may be somewhat restricted from VB ...

Probably just a question of getting the new SDK and writing a few wrappers for the WinRT API. I expect the XAML compiler will be similar to the one for the native Ribbon control we have now - though keeping in mind that targets C/C++ developers just as the new one will.

I'm a little surprised we haven't seen 3rd party attempts to wrap the native Ribbon for VB6 users yet actually.

Without tooling though it will always be a lot of work for a VB6 programmer.

I take it all back. From what we're seeing about WinRT now it will never be in the picture for VB6 applications.

As suspected
