Win32 API and MDI

Is it possible to use MDI frame window or Client window in MDI application?
(to put a picture, or create OpenGL window and then implement keyboard and mouse events etc)
I use API without MFC.

So, I tried to have a background as not a gray or white rectangle but as a picture or OpenGL sceene, but met difficulties with catching keyboard events (when there were no any chield windows), repaint procedure and others.

I would appreciate if somebody gives me some lines of code or links.
