Ok, I am at wits end on this one…

I’ve reinstalled drivers check settings over and over and yet the connection is never made.

It is a win2k laptop with an integrated lucent/wavlan card (orinoco wireless) and it communicates with the access point but will not refresh the ip do the state of the supposed unplugged cable. All I can say is help!!!!!!!

in network connections make sure you have the right device being used. if you have more than one connection make sure the ones not used are disabled and the connection with the wireless device is enabled also make sure you have it set to "automaticly obtain IP" if thats how you have the network set-up. you may need to specify an IP. let me know if that helps you at all. I have disabled the intel nic and enabled the wireless connection but it still doesn't want to coroperate. We have about 70 wireless laptops on carts that work fine with win98 (I had to disable the nic), but 2000 is really giving us problems.

I have set it to a static ip and tried dhcp, to no avail....

It is plainly strange once the radio is enabled it picks up the AP registers the connection and signal but then fails to renew a lease. I thought that might be the problem but a static ip didn't work either. The only thing I can think of is when our sysadmin downgraded to 2000 from xp he missed something. As I have said I tried drivers, software, and even a pc card firmware update - still nothing -

I am to the point of just starting over from scratch but if this a 2000 problem that might not solve the problem...

well.... to help you feel a little better you can physically switch cards with a computer that is online already. that would tell you for sure if it is the OS or the hardware. "Jack of all trades. Master of none."

Well I formatted the machine installed the latest drivers and to my chagrin still have the same problem. Gateway support and I are about to give up and start the RMA process. So if anyone has any ideas at all before I ship it back, I'll try just about anything
