I am learning to set software RAID5 on my Win2K server box: one 20GB is operation system. Then five IDE 10GB hard disks will be set as software RAID5. Those five hard disks can suport one hard disk failure since they will be RAID5. I am wondering, if the 20 GB hard disk is dead, what will happen to the RAID5? What is the solution for the failure of operation system hard disk?
Will they recovery if I reinstall the same operation system on another hard disk?

I think to protect your OS, you need to create a raid 1 just of that HD.

akwong is right but for learning purposes try your hands on software raid.
But real world then just go for one of the asus moterboard with raid options; I have learn a lot of lesson from software raid

If I reinstall the OS, can I get the RAID5 back or not?
