WIN2k Pro will only issue 169.254.X DHCP Address 2

I am having the following problem:
I can not get a DHCP address from my network or from a NETGEAR router at home on my win2k pro unit.
I have removed tcp ip and put it back
I have re-installed SP4
I have uninstalled and installed the builtin NIC
No matter what I do, the system goes back to a 169.254.X.X address.
Does anybody have any suggestions other than re-installing the OS?

Have you tested the the cable? Also try assigning the PC a static address see if you can get network connectivity at all. You are getting that address becauses its a default assign by MS when no DHCP is available.

yes, I have changed the ip address manually and can ping DC but can not join domain. I have also added the dns server manually and no luck.
At home, I plug it to the netgear box and no luck
169.x address, no matter what I do, can not get a dhcp from the system. Any suggestions?

I got th esimilar problem. i can join and logon the domain.
if i set static ip address i can ping the DC, otherwise I can't, igot 169.x.x.x.
