I'm just 'bout ready to purchase a new PC for my first Win2K full install. From everything I've read so far, it looks like HP or Dell works best with Win2K. However, I thought I would ask the forum to get 'real life' feedback/suggestions on which PC has/hasn't worked for you.

Thank you ~

i work in a strictly dell environment, i tend to recommend them over anything else at this time...anyway, i've installed W2K on a few machines in our facility and they have worked fine. i personally wouldn't recommend anything less then a 450mhz system. 64 mb of ram would be an extreme low, i prefer to have at least 128 mb, the system works better. i have also installed w2k on a dell insporin 7000, the system (i'm pretty sure) is a 266mhz system with 128 mb ram, i think it runs a little sluggish to be honest with you...and fianlly, i'm running w2k on a dual boot system at home that i built, a 600 mhz system with 128 mb ram and i love the way it runs....so there's my 2 cents worth...i'd stick with the dell if you're not planning to build, even then i'd by the best parts for the job....any more questions i'll be happy to give more input...

pcheather@home.net

I'm running it on a white-box clone using an ASUS MB and an ATI All-in-Wonder video. Works fine. As long as you stick to relatively new, name brand components the actual machine brand shouldn't matter.
Jeff
masterracker@hotmail.com

Of all the things I've lost in life, I miss my mind the most ...

Thanks for the feedback people. I appreciate it.

I also would like to spend my few cents in recommending Compaq as your W2K choice. I have been very pleasently pleased with their compatibility and performance in W2K, both Server and Pro. I also feel pretty good about selecting Compaq as my W2K choice knowing that they were a huge factor in its development and debugging.

I run W2K at home and work on Compaq deskptops, servers, and portables.

I would agree with LadyH however...for Pro you need 128mb of Ram or more to be happy with the OS!!

dxd
Thanks again for all the feedback. I appreciate it.
