I am running a proliant 5000 as a home machine, and I tried to upgrade to quad cpu's and win2k pro at about the same time. The OS does not seem to recognize the new cpus, but I get a red "ghost" graph in the TM performance window alongside the two it does recognize. I downloaded the softpaq 6.0 upgrade for the firmware/Rom from compaq, and between the install and the reboot, the "system idle" and the "iexplore" in the processes window were EACH running At ~50%. Rebooted and it stopped.
Two questions: 1) Does anyone know how to get win2k pro to recognize four cpus?
&2)Any thoughts on the consequences of installing 38 megs of win2k server softpaq into win2k pro?
BTW, the microsoft phone support guy says that win2k pro won't do it, but the HCL's on the ms site and the installation cd both say that the os is compatible with the proliant in 4-proc form

Hi,
As you have found out WIN2k pro supports only 2 cpus why not upgrade to win2k server it supports 4-32cpus depending on which version of the server family you use.
