Continuation of my post from yesterday, still struggling with this PC that was reimaged and transferred from another agency, was set up for network use, but will be standalone here. Now I can't add a user. Message returned is "Machine name/user name could not be granted access because user does not exist." I unfortunately know little about Windows 2000 networking. I have the feeling this is a domain issue. Any ideas?

And opinions welcomed also. While I don't currently have Win 2K media (the licenses came with the PC's from the transfer) I can get it. Would it be worth it to completely format and reinstall to get rid of all references to the network they were on before? I have worked with Win2K standalones with very few problems.

Thank you all!

Gwen

Does the machine still belong to a domain (was it in a domain or workgroup)? Network settings? Were there policies in force if it was in a domain? How standalone will it now be (connected to internet, but not a network?)

Are you logged on as local Administrator?

How much software would need setting up on new install - because it does sound like a clean install might be best option as you're obviously having issues - and there may be more lurking in the woodwork that only become apparent after machine in use for a while.
