Win2k DNS does not update

I am assuming the new server is configured with a static IP address (not DHCP client).
On the new servers TCP/IP properties page -> Advanced -> DNS Tab. DNS IP addresses are configured correctly? And the "Register this conneciton's address in DNS" option is checked?
The (A) record should get updated and the PTR record will also be updated, provided a reverse lookup zone is configured on DNS.
