win2k dial up connection confusion

I assembled a computer for a broadband-less friend and ran all the windows updates from my house instead of forcing him to do it over a 56k. However, when I disconnected the ethernet cable and setup the dial up conenction, IE didn't see the connection. It's still looking for the broadband feed.

I tried the wizard, etc, but to no avail. It conencts to the ISP fine, without issue, but how do I get win2k to see it?

Check your Internet Options under the Tools dropdown. In the Connections tab, make sure you have a Dial-up profile listed. If not then add one. Then make sure you select either "Dial whenever a network connection is not present" or "Always dial my default connection".

Thanks Max, but I did think to check it. It's very strange, it really should work. It's not as if I haven't done this before. Anyway, thanks just the same.

Disable the NIC and/or remove all the protocols for the NIC. Then see if IE works through the dial-up.
