I have recently upgraded a laptop from NT4 WS to W2K Pro. I run Office 2000 SR-1 Professional and use Outlook to connect to email hosted on Exchange 5.5 (SP4). Our servers are still NT4(SP6a). When directly connected to the WAN using a NIC, there are no problems.
I connect to the network using RAS no problem. But when I open MS Outlook, I can view the email folders and headers but I cannot open individual messages or events inside Public Folders. This only happens when I try to connect to email or public folders more than 1 hop away. I can ping and traceroute to the relevant servers fine though!
This has only started happening since I changed from NT to W2K(SP3).
The only thing I can think that might cause this is network latency. I connect to DOMAIN-A using the modem but my domain where the email is hosted is DOMAIN-B (5 hops away). If I connect directly to a modem in DOMAIN-B the problem also disappears. Everything points to a network timeout.
I would be grateful for any ideas.
Thanks
John
