Hi
Networking a 2k pro machine and XP machine using crossover cable.
The 2k machine is sharing ADSL to the XP machine.
Everying was working fine, no problems for a week, then for no reason I could see, the connection was broken. That is, the network connection I call "LAN" was disconnected on the 2k and xp machines.
A restart of the XP machine showed the computers connected in network properties, ipconfig showed an ip of 192.162.0.86, but pinging the 2k machine, 192.162.0.1 timed out.
ipconfig /renew returned an error saying the request to the DHCP server timed out.
Rebooting both machines solved the problem, and the two computers were able to access shares and use internet.
My question is, since the client recevied an IP from the server, and because network properties showed the two computers connected, why did ping time out, and a new request for IP time out?
Any help is appriciated, and need for clarification understood.
