I am looking for a step-by-step answer for setting up a VPN. I have two WIN2K servers at two sites (300 miles apart) that are multi-homed. Both are utilizing ADSL connections to the Internet through the ISP provided DSL router. Everything on each side is setup so that each computer on the LAN has Internet access through the second NIC on both of the site's servers. However, I am new to this VPN thing and have found little resources that give explicit, step-by-step setup of this type of VPN (the Microsoft site is really weak and not much help). Can anyone please give me some direction to end this 2-month problem?

Thanks,
Tom

Hey Tom,

I believe what you need is essentially a router-router permenant VPN connection between your two sites. Since you seem to have an ideal setup for this, with each VPN server (aka router) multihomed, it's quite easy to deploy. There are security factors to worry about though, do you have any active firewalls in place?

start there. I'll also email you an MS whitepaper on VPN deployment.

Dimitric,

No firewalls are in place right now so that enabling the VPN is easier. Once we hurdle that problem, a firewall of some sort will be implemented and, of course, the setup to enable the VPN with the firewall in place. I guess I am trying to leap one problem at a time.

Thanks,
