I am Upgrading from Win 98 to Win 2000 and having first startup problems with hardware.
I have a new Shuttle AV41P Motherboard with Celetron Processors and VIA P4X33NB and VT8235 Chipset with VIA 4:1 Driver package. I have a new Trident PCI based Video Card An Old Smile Monitor. Have a Hayes PCI Modem, and USB PCI.
All ran with Win 98. Then I installed Win 2000 and let it reformat the disk.
First boot came up in low resolution and Windwos started asking me about driver problems. I loaded the Trident Video driver and it was happy to say it was certified and installed please reboot. After that I get a stop message, an apperent problems with the video driver finding a path.
Now I can only run in safe mode which is very time consuming. I used Device Manager and found the yellow ? flag saying I have no PCI communication driver.
Problem is I cant find one. The VIA software and manual only mention a driver for Windwos 98. No one will answer at their VIAArena.com forum, or at Microsoft.
I tried disabling the PCI plug n play in bios, that didnt work. I will pull the monitor card and see if i can get any other info.
I dont know what to do next, except to put my Win 98 HD back into the system and go back.
thanks for your help.
