any help will be appreciated. thnks.
how do i network redhat 7.2 to another computer running win2000?

Hi,

That may sound ever so slighty facetious but at the physical level its true. If its only two machines you can get away with a single cat5 'crossover' cable that you plug from one PC network adapter to the other - no hub or switch needed.

Of course you'll need to configure the IP settings of both boxes on the same subnet and configure the firewalling on the redhat box to allow whatever ports you want. If you want to mount windows shares on linux or access linux directories from windows you'll need to install / configure the samba rpms on redhat.

It all depends what you want to do ....

Regards

best if noobie gives some info, about what is "connect", what he waits from the connection. file sharing? printing? emailing? tcpip? etc etc

ok, sorry 4 the slight delay in answer to help.
thanks everyone.
i've got the cable.
;)
and its connected to a hub.

what i want from the actual connection is to get internet sharing working.
i guess this means tcp/ip protocols configured correctly.

im not too worried about mounting window shares on linux or vice versa, via samba, im sure theres lots of websites how to do that.

im pretty sure when i installed, i put the lowest level security(i think thats no fire wall) to simplify matters for the moment.

help appreciated.
