Does anyone have any ideas?
Our network locked up (really really slow to access internet or email apps, etc.) and we traced it back to three workstations. When we checked the switch, three workstations were lit up solid orange. It only locked up when a particular app is run. The app (Infomed) connects to an Access database on a Novell server via OBDC. The workstations are Win 2000 with Novell clients (2000 clients) and have run the app without issue for the pat three weeks.
Other workstations running the same app on Win 95, do not bog down the network. Only when we run the product Infomed with the OBDC Microsoft Access drivers 4.00.4403.02
do the workstation lights turn solid orange at the switch, and the whole network (and all other apps) slow down.
Have ruled out hardware issue. We've ruled out hardware by building a new system from scratch on a different hardware platform and running it from a different switch - same issues. System runs fine until the app is executed.
There are no profile issues as the network locks up before the users enter application ids and passwords.
We think it may be an OBDC issue with the novell client for Win 2000, or an IPX issue (the windows 2000 workstation browsing the Novell server using IPX). The IPX issue doesn'treally seem plausible because the workstations seem to be able to function in all other ways without affecting the network. We also thought of putting a Novell client for Winnt on the 2000 system but wondered if anyone has tried this. Will there be other issues if we downgrade the Novell client software?
Thanks for any assistance!
