Seems there are issues with security and users on a win2000server server. Is my security file corrupt? No policies that I know were ever put in place. Win 98 machines cannot connec tin any way, no internet/email, although the main connection is working. Found and removed backdoor.hackdefender virus. Some account information has changed.
In a "Users" folder, there is a new security "user" automatically added for all users' folders.
The user is S-1-5-21-1060284298-1606980848-2146877203-1124
and it has full permission.
When the original user, say F.FRANK tries to access files, say an Excel file off the server, it allows navigation and excel sees the file in the user location on the server, but when clicking open, it says it doesnt exist check spelling etc. (doesnt make sense to check spelling of a file that you are looking at and clicking on)
Any advice? Is it virul?
Thank you

s-1-5-1... is a SID user, in ur case, obviously it can't resolve to a username mapping the SID. you may use SID2NAME to see what's that SID is?

most likely, when your PC are disjoin to a AD domain for whatever reason, you will have SID showing up in ACL.

you can reset ACL by taking ownership and re-permission it.
