Win16 Subsystem unable to enter protected mode

This error message appears when I try to run any 16bit program. It is followed by "DOSX.EXE must be present in your autoexec.nt and present in your path" -which it is.

I did find a microsoft knowledge base article Q168925, which didn't help much.

I have 3 other machines installed at the same time, all of which are fine (?)

Any help much appreciated.
