Hi,

Yesterday I upgraded from XP sp1 to XP sp 2.

Everything works OK, except my display resolution has got worse! (Letters on web pages look fuzzy and washed out. Same on Powerpoint)
Has anyone encountered an OS upgrade causing res' to go bad?

Any clues how I can restore the sharp display resolution I had when running XP sp 1? Is there a setting I'm missing??

My box: Toshiba Tecra A1 laptop. i486

Many, many thanks.
Milton.

DRIVER INFO:
Driver version (from control panel/Display) is:
Microsoft, 6/6/2001, Version: 5.1.2001.0
(Seems old!! Do I need a newer driver??)
Toshiba Internal 1024/768 panel.

You are running XP SP2 on an i486?? I can't believe that it did even install. Win ME will not want to install on a 486 because it says that it needs a Pentium 150 minimum.

Unless someone knows otherwise, I think that the SP1 driver should work on an SP2 setup. The upgrade probably just disabled the older driver. What do the display settings say about the resolution? Is it still at 1024 x 768?

If you can make an adjustment in your display for the resolution, colors, etc, thats the place to do so.
If that works, fine, if not, then you could try installing your video card drivers again.
Is this built-in video or an add-on card?
I cant believe it, win xp w sp2 on a 486 laptop! It must be so very slow. Its still got the cool factor anyway!

Yep same res.

Any steps on how I can re-install the XP1 driver for the
display? I have the XP 1 CDs.

Thanks.

Good question! Seems to me you would have to install sp1 over again, but i could be wrong on that.

Can you go into the Divice Manager/video properties and "roll back" the drivers?

Issue solved. ( I feel pretty dumb)

There's a setting in the Ctl PANEL-> DISPLAY-> Advanced
that askes if you want to smooth fonts.
Usually its off, but when I installed SP2, I guess it set it on, thus causing the fuzzy letter probloem.

I turned it off and bingo. All clear again.

Refresh rate can also dramaticly effect image shapness.
On TFT panels to high a refresh rate can have this effect.
Take it down to 60hz and give it a go.
