I think the only problem you will get is active content warnings when you view the help files. These are easy to get rid of. When you launch help in photoshop it displays a html page which uses frames. These are considered active content by Service pack 2 and you'll get a warning at the top of the browser window.

If you right any active content yourself and try and run it locally you will also get the same warnings. My first experience with this was trying to run a page that contained some simple image rollover javascript that I had written. The warnings apeared at the top of the page. They say something like 'Warning, this page contains active content'. If you want the page to load you just click on the warning which will launch a dialog box and then click on an option to allow the content to load.

If you use help a lot, or design your own web pages, this will really tick you off after a while. So the best thing to do is just to diasble the function which blocks the active content from loading locally. To do this just open Internet explorer, Click on Tools > Internet Options, and select the Advanced tab. In there you will find an option which says 'Allow active content to run in files from My Computer'. If you check the box next to that you won't be bothered by those warnings again, whether from photoshop help, or your own web scripting.

I've heard all sorts of stories about XP SP2 causing problems with programs, but other than having to change a few settings, and re-adjust my firewall a little to allow an updated version of IE to access the internet, I've had none. Some people have aparentley experienced slow downs on their systems, but this certainly isn't the norm. Photoshop CS is working fine, as are all my other programs (there's about 50 on my computer).

If you do experience anything nasty with XP SP2 (which is very unlikely) you can always uninstall it. Here's the link on how to do that:
