All,

After installing SP2, we get a blue screen when a normal user logs on. The error message is about ntfs.sys.
I checked the internet, but all i could find was a message about chkdsk /f. Run this, but this didn't solve the issue.

The blue screen doesn't occure when:
- The laptop is not connected to the network.
- A local administrator logs on (not on the domain).

The system restarts without problem.

What is wrong, and what can we do to solve this.

Thanks for all your help.

Hi,

Installed this hotfix, The bahaviour changed a littlebit, but still a blue screen.
Again with STOP message 0x00000024, but not with the ntfs.sys message again.

a little step further??

Thanks,

Much closer.

Where this issue is reported, an extended check of RAM surfaced bad RAM or overclocking as the issue.

If you are overclocking, well... you know what to do.

If it is a RAM issue:
Run either of these linked freeware programs, and if the test fails replace the RAM. (Neither program requires XP to be booted). SP2 is much fussier about RAM than XP without the service pack:

And, report back. We may not be done yet with this issue.

Hi,

Good news... We tested several things.
We found only a few users in a specific group were having this issue. Other users didn't have this issue on the same laptop.

We found the problem was in the profile on the laptop for those users. When we removed the profile, the issue was over.
We were able to create a new profile with all the required settings, and no problem here.

Unfortunately we do not know which part caused the error, but we are ok with this.

Thanks very much for your help and quick responses.!!!

Rob.

Glad you got it sorted.
Best wishes,
Bill Castner
