WIN XP PRO REGISTRY STOP ERROR 1

I have a client who was running Lavasoft adaware and norton antiviurs at the same time and then tried to stop it by shutting down the pc. upon reboot they get a BSOD with a REGISTRY_ERROR and a stop error code of 0x00000051. I have found nothing on Technet in reference to this stop error mesage.

i have tried bootin ginto the recoevery console but to no avail it is unsuccesful, i get the same error code. even when i try to run an instalation over the current instalation and i get the same stop error.

there is critical data on the hardrive that the user did not back up. it is a DELL machine p4 512MB DDR memeory 80 GB hardrive space running windows xp Pro.. there was a single partition. The partition is formated with NTFS.

Is there any way i can get into the partition to either do a registry repair or get the files off?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

1. Try booting into "Last Known Good configuration" by hitting the F8 key early and often on startup.

2. If no joy, follow the instructions in this article to restore the registry:

u can put the drive in another computer and access it from there 2 backup the files/folder. therefor you need 2 take over possession of the files/folder with the admin account.
