Win Xp on VPN

Hi all I have 8 computers on a vpn It works fine in one location I have 2computers one works on win xp the second is on 2000 this is my problem I can from the xp enter the 2000 computer by \\##.#.#.## then enter a user name and password, from the 2000 I can ping the ip address from the cmd, if I enter in run \\##.#.#.## I get a dialog box to enter the user name and password I entered the user name and password and made share on the xp that its correct the 2000 will have an error Wrong user or password,
