HD's and optic drive installed properly.

When installing, I get to the partition screen at which point I partition one of the HD's. I go to install win xp on the C partition but get the following message:

"To install win xp on the partition you selected, setup must write some startup files to the follwoing disk:

250 gig disk 0 at id 0 on bus 0 on atapi [MBR]

However, this disk does not contain a win xp compatable selection. "

goes on to say to return to prev scrn and create partition, and try again.

why isn't xp recognizing the ide partition I'm suggesting?

I've tried this a couple of times without success.

I have tried with and without raid drivers selected.

am i missing something in the bios for the hard drives?

Sounds like you need to format the partitions in NTFS. Jumper the HDD as Slave, connect the HDD to another PC, then, in Disk Management, initialize the disk, then create partitions, then format them.

Re-jumper the drive to Master and try to boot from Windows CD and install...again [smile]
