My hard drive has partitions and has win98 and winXP set for login but the black login screen still shows the XP setup choice. How can I remove this? Where is this info kept?

I'm not too sure exactly what you mean, can I just clarify a couple of points?

1) You have both Win98 and WinXP installed
2) During boot a screen is displayed showing the options of booting into either version of windows.
3) Windows Xp is the default choice
4) You want to remove Xp from the boot options?
5) or there is a third option you want removing?

If 1 to 4 are true then you could remove the entry but you would no longer be able to boot into windows.

if 1 to 3 and 5 are true then this is easy to do.

Are you referring to "Setup of XP" as a booting choice?

Right-click the My Computer icon/ Properties/ Advanced/ Startup and Recovery/ Settings/ Edit

Click Edit to manually edit the boot options file. Microsoft strongly recommends that you do not modify the boot options file (boot.ini). Doing so may render your computer unusable.
