Win XP Home - USB Problem

I recently had a problem with an old PC with WIN XP Home on it, as part of sorting it out I had the USB ports upgraded via a PCI card to USB2.

I was happy, my scanner and printer both worked well, but now I have tried to attach an MP3, and its looking for a "USB MASS STORAGE CLASS" driver, but unable to locate it.

My guess is that the USB driver is missing from the PC, anyone any idea where I can get this driver from? The MP3 manufacturer is no use!

Any help is appreciated.

Was there a driver CD with the PCI Card?
Try the PCI Card manufaturer web site.

You say 'Old PC'. It it capable of supporting USB2?

XP Disc should have a usb2 driver

Is the MP3 player USB2 compatible? I recently bought the ION USB Turn Table so I could burn my old vinyl records to CD. It turned out not to be USB2 compatible

A USB 2.0 PCI card should just be recognised by XP - it already has drivers. Presumably the older 1.1 USB ports still work - have you tried 'MP' (MP3 player?) in there?

And you have got service pack 2 for XP installed of course!

btw - have you tried MP3 in any other machines?

The problem lies in the interrupt sharing. Another device is using the same interupt channel. Try putting the pci card in a different slot.

If the problem was interrupt sharing then the scanner and printer would not being working. XP needs a driver to recognize the MP3 device, and that should have came from the device manufacturer.

For starters, why don't you tell us what the make/model of the MP3 player is? Perhaps you couldn't find the drivers at the manufacturer's site, but I'm positive they exist.

I believe you are missing the point that the PCI card is a USB 2.0 card that Windows XP recognizes just fine. In fact, scalfea has already attached multiple USB devices to it without an issue. It's only the MP3 player that needs a driver. Even though they are USB 2.0 ports, you should be able to plug in USB 1.1 devices without hassle. The ports are backwards compatible.

Again, the PCI card is not the issue. See the original post about the scanner and printer working with the card...
