I have an NT4 network with 58 Win 95/98 clients on it. We have purchased 4 new desktops with Win xp Pro.

The new XP clients experience about 40 second delay accessing the network drive where the firm's MS Word documents reside (140,000 documents in consuming ~ 20Gb server hard disk capacity).

The Win 95 and 98 clients experience no delay in accessing these files.

It "feels" like the XP clients are looking for something and then timing out.

I am open to suggestions!

Hi Browolf,
Both TCP/IP and NetBUI are installed on the servers.

Add the server IP address to the Wins tab on the client. This has worked well on our XP laptops.

No, I'll try that!

I am sure that there are some registry tweaks for browsing the network from XP.. maybe have a look on the internet for it.
