I have had my new computer up and running for a little over a month with NO problems. Suddenly, my modem driver is causing my computer to restart and the Microsoft Online crash Service says it is my Smartlink Modem driver and that I need the updated one to solve my problem.

First issue: I have a NetoDragon v.92 56k voice modem, not a Smartlink (maybe they use the same driver?)

Second issue: when I downloaded the recommended driver from smartlink's web site and installed it, my modem would not work at all, and when AOL forced me to reset my connection properties, I no longer had the phone/modem option, just LAN/ISP, which I am not on.

I'm going to try and see if XP came with a driver, but I wanted to post my SOS before I had to hang up to try it (I hate dial-up)

Anyone been through this before?

first thing you did wrong was go to smartlink when that was not your modem and try to use thier drivers, now your modem is not install which brings up your second issue about AOL, since you have no usable modem installed it is not going to look for one to use ex: just lan/isp available. goto device manager remove modems listed and let it reinstall properly then look for updated drivers for your modem
