I have a Windows machine used as a file server. I also have a Mac on the same network with Samba enabled and the shares configured; however, when I add a file from a Windows machine to the share, it is not displayed on the Mac share until I disconnect and remount the share.

How can I get the Mac side to be up-to-date with the files on the PC side?

While I ask that question, how do I get the Mac to automatically mount the samba share on startup?

I've never had to do this - if the Mac window seems out of sync with the windows box, clicking into another application and then clicking on the Finder window is all it takes to refresh the contents.

For automounting, there's no capability for this in the user interface for shares, but I bet if you dug up the Samba documentation on the web, you could do it.

Years ago I did something like that, but since I primarily use a laptop, automounting of shares wasn't useful to me.

If you are connecting to a server, add the Apple interface and connect straight to it and see if that helps.

I've never had a problem like this.

To "automount", go to System Prefs, Accounts, Login items and add the mounted volume.
