Hey guys I got a NT workstation that sometimes but not all the time when it boots up and gets to the black screen that says (seconds until highlighted choice will be started automatically) it will freeze as it is counting down and if it make it pass that sometimes the NTDETECT V.4.0 Hardware will freeze. Does this sound like a problem the service pack can fix or a reload of the operating system. We are useing service pack 5 only because we know it works with all the apps on the machine. I had already suggested we go to 6a.Can I use the ERD to fix the boot problem without reloading the operating sys? Can you shed some light on this for me.

If the clock freezes while displaying entries from boot.ini then it sounds like a motherboard issue and not an issue with NT. Would look at the m/board and also cards. Dodgy net card?
