We've just been lumbered with 2 Windows ME workstations on our existing network (with NT4 Server and Win98 workstations). All is well except with one folder on the network drive. This folder can be accessed by the Win98 machines, but everytime either of the Win ME machines browses to this folder (in Explorer, in DOS prompt or anywhere) the workstation hangs and eventually crashes with an infamous blue screen.

Any ideas? I've tried copying the data somewhere else on the server, but the same thing happens. I can't see there can be anything wrong with the files if they can be opened in a Win98 environment!

Thanks for any assistance

Jeff

Have you checked out the attributes and NT permissions on the folder? If it's a shared folder on the server then the ME machines might need authorization to access it.

Hi Woggie

The users have been accessing these folders for a couple of years and can still do so from the 98 stations.

Actually, I gave up on Windows ME as it was so slow. We've rebuilt the machines as Windows 98 SE and all is fine!

I don't think I'll be a fan of Millennium Edition...

Thanks for the post, anyway.

Jeff
