Win ME & IE 6 hanging

I am running Win ME. When I try to open an Inertenet Explorer session it appears to be trying to launch it for a few seconds, but then quits trying (or so it seems). 50% of the time it will open up about 3 minutes later, the rest of the time it will no launch not at all. My cable ISP provider had me check my DNS and IP settings everything looked fine. I could ping YAHOO.COM successfully, and have no email problems. I have upgraded to IE6.0 successfully but with no results. Any suggestion would be helpful.

Check your proxy settings, in Internet Options | Connections | LAN Settings. Try without anything
checked, i.e. Do not check "Automatically detect settings". and Do not check "Use a proxy server..." (in the "Proxy server" box).

Also try with the settings as provided by your ISP.

There are several threads thoughtout this group that cover this kind of behaviour in great detail as well. Read the long ones as the topic title may not be completly relevant 70 posts down...

Thanks everyone, I tried as many tips as I could, but in the end the only thing that fixed it was installing the latest version of Netscape (a last ditch attempt to try anything). I have no idea what Netscapes upgrade fixed that the upgrade of IE6 didn't, but it works now!
