Hi all:
{I've had some minor problems w/Win98SE-loaded the "res-kit" sampler from the disk and now Win can't find the win.com file--any ideas would be a REAL big help. C is the drive that most of my code is stored for my programs that I'm
"trying" to compile. The idea of statring in 'safe-mode' doesn't exactly thrill me--if you know what I mean?
}
Thanks woodcarver

c:\windows\win.com is the standard location.

Safe mode is windows without drivers and when you shutdown from it you'll be back to regular bootup next time. No need to be afraid. Ed Fair

Hi: This is woodcarver-my description might not be the most clear, I shall clarify-- When Windows starts it sends a message that the file "win.com" cannot be found. The question that I have is: Should I rebuild the file or is there an easier way to rectify the problem?
Thanks; woodcarver

Can't say I've ever had to find another copy. But I suspect that you could transfer another copy into the directory with no problems in DOS using your EBD. Assuming that you can find somebody else with SE. Or somebody else may tell you where to extract it from on the CD. Ed Fair

Ed has given you some good advice....

I ran into one computer a long time ago that was doing something similar to what you have described.
I also found an unlikely fix....

Try running scandisk from the dos prompt before windows boots. HIT F8 to bypass when the computer starts and you will get a menu for that option.

I don't the reasoning behind it, but it worked on that one, and it wont hurt anything to try it.

Good luck! Kimber
