Using my Win98 client, I am unable to connect to any Time sync. sites thru my Linux server/firewall. My security level is set to High. I know it has to do with configuring a port but I don't know which port I need to change. I can't determine the port number from the Time server (NIST @ time-A.timefreq.bldrdoc.gov) Can you instruct me further? Your recommendations are appreciated. X-)

Try 37.
If this does not work then get in touch with NIST
and ask them.

Hi,

I think its more likely to be the NTP protocol which connects to port 123 (server end) from a unprivileged client port. This uses UDP not TCP so if you are using a simple tool like lokkit I'm not sure you can configure it that way - you might have to manually code the rules. Its not unusual for firewalls to block all UDP because it is regarded as less secure than TCP (TCP has a concept of connections so you can check if a packet relates to an established connection - UDP is connectionless) .

Hope this helps
