Win 98 Shut Down - ?

I installed WIN 98 on a P233 machine, and about 1/3 of the time when I click Start>Shut Down the screen darkens as if it's going to shut the system down, but then the screen returns to normal and nothing happens. When I repeat the Start>Shut Down it then shuts the system down. Anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this?

You may want to look at your anti-virus software as a cuplrit. This tends to cause this problem often.
