Many thanks to you all, but new problems now...I think it is to do with the registry.

Win 98 has gone through most of the startup and got to one of the last stages (just after inputting the time) When updating the system settings I encountered a number of errors.

- Regsvr32
- "An error occurred while calling the function Dllnstall in c:\\windows\system\shdocvw.dll
- unable to write to c:
- illegal operation, rundll32 caused an invalid page fault in module kernal32.dll

Do I worry yet about the Hard Drive and try to get my cash back from the guy on ebay???

Hoping for an easy outcome, Viney

Receiving an Error writing to your C: Drive is never good. 99.9% chance of complete hard drive failure is eminent.

Unless it is your IDE Controller, but probably your hard drive is about to give up the ghost.

Sorry for the news.

P.S. Get your cash back!

I recommend:
Download the diagnostic software from the Hard drive manufacturers website.
Run this.
If the hard drive is bad, you will get an error code.

If it is bad....... and it's under 3-years old, the chances are highly probable you will be able to get a replacement from the manufacturer.

RUN THE RMA process, using the error code, serial # of the HD, and give them the relevant information on the HD.
Finish the RMA "paperwork" online at their website, and they will send you an RMA # for that drive.
