This is a Compaq Presario (a 5030) running Win 98 (1st ed)

After dialing up and browesing on the NET, I disconnect. If I receive a (voice) phone call (no call waiting) the PC freezes up (like an IRQ problem) and has to be turned off to proceed. Happens EVERY time

Also a lot of other (all communications related) erros and crashes using netscape 4.6 "access violation fault in module RASAP132.dll. or Netscape App file crashed module 32 bit problem Access violation, etc

Help? Thanks

You may have a "wake-on-ring" issue, I would check the web site for FAQ's. It can usually be disabled by Bios setting or removing a cable from the modem to Mboard.

The modem may be trying to assert itself on receiving a voice call, and trying to restart your PC.

I checked the PC hardware forum ( I hope deep enough to find the answer you refer to. This problem freezes the entire PC and mouse-its not a video issue if thats the answer you refer to. Its a fixed IRQ also (11)

Theres a few things to check.....ready??!!
1. Check to see if your CPU fan is working. if not it can heat up the processor and cause it to lock.
2. Compaq is very proprietary and I hated them with win95 but it looks like 98 is bad too with modems. I sent a compaq to them once with the same issue and they actually told me it had to do with a cd rom that I changed out. Did you change it?
3. Have you added RAM or had your box open where it was possible to zap it?
4. See if you can go to Microsoft site and get the latest a service pack.
5. Under your Modem setting in the control panel go into..properties/connection/advanced..............uncheck error control.
6. Your ISP. When dialing into them do you have *70 for the call waiting? I didnt understand if your saying you do or dont have it.

try it all and get back

Sorry, maybe it was a different forum...anyhow...
Compaq has a driver update for this problem. If you have their version of the HCF (Rockwell) modem, go and get Softpaq 8897.
They also recommend you uninstall, reboot, then reinstall DUN, and make a new connection.
