My IBM 600 thinkpad with Win 98 won't load windows.
On boot-up it gets the win 98 screen, then shows it loading user policy then a quick appearence of a command prompt window. It then goes to a solid screen and hangs
It was running fine up until the last time I shut down. It hung and I had to use the power button to turn it off

Try and get into safe mode or the command prompt to run scandisk over the hard drive and correct any errors.

try holding the CTRL key on bootup and wait for win98 start menu and choose "command prompt only" and type
SCANREG /RESTORE
since it happened recently..
follow the prompts to restore a "Started" version that has a date Previous to when the problems occur...
mind you, you only have 5 days, if that, to do this
