Win 98 & Audit Mode

Greetings all,

A friend of mine suspected he picked up a virus and upon running Norton AV he received an error message stating the software needed to be uninstalled and re-installed. No biggie I suppose but before doing so he went to Symantic's website to run their remote ant-virus and got an error message from them stating it couldn't peform the scan as his Win 98 machine was still in audit mode and needed to be reset from the factory.

Anyone know what audit mode is and how to remove or disable it?
