My wife forgot the password she inputted years ago in her PC. She does not remember the exact string and when she attempts to do some Web search, even if the site of search is a bit innocent eg. Definition of the expression "lay term". It refuses access saying she does not have the right to access such content.

Will I have to re-install WIN 98 ? Or is there a way around this little problem?

Thanks,

Takedadan

Little confused about the problem. However, to remove passwords in 98 just delete any .pwl files.

If you've forgotten the Internet Explorer content advisor password and want to change the ratings settings then follow these instructions to change the settings back to their defaults.

All the Content Advisor settings are stored in the key below. If you no longer have the password, then simply delete the key, and all the settings will be removed.

Open your registry, find the key below. Single click on the key to highlight it, press the DELETE key, or alternatively select Delete from the Edit menu.

Close Internet Explorer, re-open it, and the Content Advisor feature should be disabled.

Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersionPolicies\Ratings]

There may also be a sub-key .default. If the file %systemroot%\System\Ratings.pol exists, delete it or rename it.
