When I try to log into a remote server, my Windows 8.1 laptop adds my laptop computer name as the domain name to my user name: <computer name>\my user name. Obviously, the remote server is not part of my domain name and I cannot seem to remove this from the RDP login screen. This forces me to manually type the user name rather than have a "saved" connection profile on my laptop. Has anyone experienced this and is there a work-around?

Thanks!!!!

After running up mstsc, click on show options - there you can customize it as much as you like and save it to a .rdp settings file.

xwb's suggestion should do the trick for you.

I encountered the same problem when using Windows 7 workstations to connect via SBS 2008 / Remote Web Workplace... in my case, using an .RDP file was not an option. I never did find out the cause, and it does not happen on all Windows 7 machines.

That's the way I originally built it but it kept adding the domain to the user name. I opened mstsc but it wouldn't allow me to edit the domain so I deleted it and then rebuilt and saved it without the credentials. Then I could go back and opt to save the credentials - now it works! I've only built about 10,000 of these over the years and have never had to jump thru so many hoops - MS strikes again!

Thanks for your help guys! Kudos to both of you!
