I have recently substantially upgraded my PC hardware, and have installed Win 7 64bit Home Premium from an OEM SP1 disc.

I previously had Win 7 32 bit Professional installed from an upgrade disc, pre-SP1.

The issue is I'm no longer able to backup to my NAS drive - this is a "feature" of Win 7 Home Premium.

I'd like to continue using the NAS dive for backups, and I'm checking out the options, which seem to be:

1. Upgrade to Win 7 Pro.
I have a Win 7 Pro 64bit upgrade disc, but it's previous to SP1. Will it work?

2. Find a work around for Win 7 Home Premium.
If it exists and is legit.

3. Buy Acronis.
Which I believe will backup to the NAS drive, but I need confirmation.

What's my best route?

Cheers, John.

1. Yes. Regardless of SP, an upgrade is an upgrade.

2. There is, it's called create a virtual hard drive with the network storage. This a video and it explains it better.

3. Yes, Acronis true image will work to a network drive. So will others. Easeus todo backup will also. Link

Thanks for a positive response, I'all check out the links.

Sadly this didn't work.

All seemed to be going well - temporary files installed, agreed to the licence, accepted updates, &c. - then the process stopped with this message:

To upgrade from one edition of Windows 7 to another edition of Windows 7, use Windows Anytime Upgrade. Cancel the upgrade, open the Start menu, and search for Windows Anytime Upgrade.

Correction - it's sorted!

What I needed was the Licence Number, not the disc.

I entered the 25 character key into the Windows Anytime Upgrade online dialogue box, and after a couple of reboots, it's now Win 7 Pro.

Thank you!
