Please see the thread I started in the Windows 7 forum. I've been able to configure webs on my local machine for years but with Windows 7 I'm at the point of tears. I don't know what to do. I even did teh Upgrade Anytime thing to bring Windows Home Premium up to Professional. Sucked me in they did... that didn't make one bit of difference.

For some background please read the couple of posts in this thread and then read further

thread1726-1610136

In XP, you went to IIS and then right clicked the Default Site instance and made sure the "Home Directory" was set. I no longer have that in Win7, it was not there before the upgrade and is not there now. I get about 30 applications or icons on the right panel in the IIS tool but I have NO CLUE what they are all about. I'm not an IIS Guru.

I have an Access database that I update on my local PC here at home and the I sync my updates to my desktop PC at work. At work on the XP machine I run the small web from my desktop PC as there are limited folks that use it.

I'm trying to migrate that over to a windows 2003 server but that's another story for another time and not what I need info for now. I'm working from home and needing ot update but my web is ASP pages... I open the page and do my updates.... but when I open the page, all of the search fields have the Search code in it rather than a blank field and when I hit the search button anyway.... I get the Internet Explorer error with button to "Diagnose Connection Problem"

I found the odbac32.exe file and opened it my database is registered... HELP ME... I have been fighting this since the middle of May.... I am currently working at home due to construction at the office and its a royal pain in teh butt to VPN into the network and then work on my web/database via REMOTE DESKTOP... talk about worse than snail mailing it in....

Does anyone know what in the world I'm doing wrong?

Thank you in advance.... And Turkbear from the other forum, thanks for guiding me to this forum.

Oh and I found a help file somewhere that said to set "localhost" to the IP address 127.00.0.1 and I did that but it did not help.

I set my shortcut to and I now get the following error:

An error occurred on the server when processing the URL. Please contact the system administrator.
If you are the system administrator please click here to find out more about this error.

I'm using Dreamweaver and I have the remote server right now set to None...

is how I now have the testing server set. Rather than
<sigh>

I'm a .NET/SQL Server developer and don't know a lot about classic ASP or Access, but do you have ASP enabled in IIS?

Keep in mind that by default Windows 7 doesn't really enable anything, which is a big learning curve from previous MS OS's.

Check the following:
Programs and Features -> Turn Windows features on or off -> Internet Information Services -> World Wide Web Services -> Application Development Features -> ASP

While you are in the tree you might want to check out all the other options too (especially the Security options).

Also in IIS I would try it using the Classic App Pool rather than the Integrated one (if Classic works then you can try Integrated).

Regards,

J

Thank you.... yes ASP was installed, or checked, I made sure of that from my various findings on the internet.
The Default AppPool was set to integrated, I changed that to classic.

Still no luck..
Thing is, I'm not real knowledgeable about all of this stuff and with XP it was pretty darn straight forward....

I hate that Microsoft is "trying to help us... dangit"

ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!

I appreciate your feedback J :)

OMG!!! Its definitely ASP Related....

I have some links on my site to pages which are HTM because they are basic tables in the DB with no relational links... and those pages work fine....

The ASP Pages come up with errors.

Does this help ANYONE?

You might also need to install "Server side includes" in IIS (that has tripped me up before too).

Regards,

J

Hey J,

Thanks for responding. I can tell you that I've gotten somewhere prior to your post. I can now access the database via the asp pages on my local PC. The problem is, I am unable to 'update' the database. It is not password protected so there should be no problem.

I did revisit the Windows Features screen to confirm and EVERYTHING under Internet Information Services ..EVERYTHING, except for FTP is checked. I have no clue what half of it is for, and dangit... Unca Bill is just trying to help us right? GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR....

This is related to the database I fear and "IT" is registered using the odbac32.exe file... its an Access database but its not an accb file its an mdb file.

ANy clues? I have searched the internet and found no help... now mind you some of what I find is totally over my head and I get frustrated and dump out. Do you have some easy to understand assistance??

Thanks...
