I am running a HP2200dn on a network. I was trying to print a web page from my computer to the printer. The computer shut itself down. We are using a PCL6 and Pcl 5e driver. Can anyone help?

Here is the fix:

It may be necessary to make the following adjustments to the PCL6 driver:
1. Select Start - Settings - Printers. (In Windows XP, select Start, then “Control Panel”, then double-click on “Printers and Other Hardware”, then double-click on “Printers and Faxes”, and then select “View installed Printers”.)
2. Right-click on the PCL6 driver and select “Properties” (Windows 95/98/ME), “Document Defaults” (Windows NT 4.0) or “Printing Preferences” (Windows 2000/XP).
3. Select the “Finishing” tab.
4. Select “Custom” under Print Quality, and then click on the “Details” button next to it.
5. Check the check box next to “Send True Type as Bitmaps” under “Font Settings”.
6. Select OK.
7. Select OK again.

If that does not work, try installing an alternate HP LaserJet 2200 PCL5e driver. The PCL5e driver is usually located on the driver disk that came with the printer. The latest version of the HP LaserJet 2200 PCL5e driver may be downloaded from the following web address:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software1/lj971/lj-5817-1/lj971en.exe
Perform the following steps after downloading the printer driver files:
1. Double-click on the lj971en.exe icon to expand the zipped files. They will expand to c:\lj971 by default; you may expand the files to another directory if you wish.
2. Close WinZip.
3. Select Start - Settings - Printers.
4. Double-click the “Add Printer wizard”.
5. Click next, select local, uncheck “Automatically detect and install my plug and play printer”, and then click next.
6. Select the appropriate port and click next. If the port is not listed, select “Create new port” and choose the appropriate type of port to create. If this computer is going to print to a shared printer on the network, select “Local Port”, click next, and type the network path as the port name. Example: \\server\printer. Once the new port has been created, click OK or next.
7. At the list of manufacturers and printers, select “Have Disk”.
8. Where it says, “Install manufacturer’s files from”, type c:\lj971. You may also browse to this directory if you wish.
9. Click OK on the “install from disk” window.
10. Assure that the HP LaserJet 2200 PCL5e appears and is highlighted and then click next.
11. If the wizard brings up a window that asks you whether you want to “keep existing driver (recommended)” or “replace existing driver”, then select “replace existing driver” and click next.
12. Select “Yes” to make the printer the default printer and click next.
13. Indicate whether the printer is shared and click next.
14. Select “No” to print a test page, click next, and then click finish.

If the HP LaserJet PCL5e fails, try installing an alternate driver provided by Microsoft Windows. This driver may be more compatible with your printing environment. The LaserJet 2200 is able to interpret the PCL language to the PCL6 level. This means that the printer is able to utilize other Hewlett-Packard LaserJet drivers that are provided by the Windows operating system. This also provides backward compatibility with older Hewlett-Packard LaserJet printers. Perform the following steps to install the Microsoft driver in Windows that is best suited to operate the LaserJet 2200 printer as an alternative to the LaserJet 2200 printer driver software:
1. Close all applications, including virus checkers and programs that run in the background.
2. Select Start - Settings - Printers.
3. Open the Add Printer icon to launch the Add Printer wizard.
4. Select “Next” to begin adding your printer driver.
5. Select Local Printer, remove the check from the box labeled “Automatically detect and install my plug and play printer”, and click next.
7. Select “HP” in the Manufacturer’s list, the “HP LaserJet 4000 Series PCL” in the printer list, and click next.
8. Select “Yes” to make the printer the default printer and click next.
9. Indicate whether the printer is shared and click next.
10. Select “No” to print a test page, click next, and then click finish.

NOTE: You may also use a driver such as the HP LaserJet 4 Plus.
NOTE: You must have full Administrator rights in order to install the printer driver on a Windows 2000 server.
NOTE: Windows may prompt you for the Windows 2000 CD-ROM. If so, insert the Windows 2000 CD-ROM and click on OK. If the CD-ROM is set to automatically run when a CD is inserted, the Windows 2000 Setup window may appear and should be closed. Windows may state the folder “i386” is not on your Windows 2000 CD. If so, browse to the hard drive to locate this folder.
