If you have a Linksys router, it can be set up to handle the DHCP function, check Linksys web site for configuration. It's very simple! Also, you don't have to use two ethernet cards in the W2k Server. Plug output of Router directly into hub. Then you can plug server, and all other machines for connectivity into the hub and it should work. Set all clients to Obtain an IP Address automatically. Set DNS to obtain automatically also. Go to command prompt, type ipconfig /all. You should see an IP address assigned to your machine. Win 98, ME, or 95 type winipcfg using start/run. You should see same info. I have this configuration and the Linksys router also. If you set up Active Directory on the server (which you really don't need unless you are serving a large office with many users and domains) you can type dcpromo at the start/run applet, and 2k server will install active directory. Caution, if you have to start up Active Directory, you'll have to assign a static ip to the 2k server first. Make sure the scope of the DHCP server on the Linksys router is set to not include the assigned address of the 2k server or you'll get a conflict eventually. One last thing, the Linksys router can handle 1 subnet only, assigning 254 addresses.
