Hi there
im currently running windows 2k pro with sp2 installed and everything works fine but when i boot up i get a dos screen telling me that the autochk file is missing. i have tried extracting the file from my windows cd but this never worked .
The actual operating system works perfectly well and shuts down without any bsod`s but this message is more annoying than anything else

thanks in advance
Steve

You can play w/ the registry, only if you feel comfortable doing so... ERD and Reg backup are good idea. (Though you probably know this, it should be said) :) Set to 0 for no autochk.

Start Registry Editor (Regedit32.exe) and locate the following subkey:

\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\

Add the following information:

Value Name: AutoChkTimeOut Data Type: DWORD Value: The value in units of seconds (for example, a value of 60 equals 1 minute)

The autochk.exe count down time is controlled by the following registry entry:

\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager \AutoChkTimeOut

If the entry is not found, the default count down of 10 seconds will be used. If it is set to 0 second, there will not be any count down. If it is set to more than 3 days (259,200 seconds), the default value will be used.

Have fun! Hope this helps. -md
