Hi

I have installed Win 2K Advance Server on my PIII 450 with 128 MB RAM. However if I connect a Second Hard Drive on the same IDE or the other Win2k hangs at start up screen.

The second HDD is Quantum BigFoot 6.4 GB.

Can anyone suggest something to solve this problem?

Thanks in advance

Are you sure that the main drive is set to master, and the other to slave?

If the hard drive you are adding is already formatted with partitions recognizable by W2K, you may be throwing things off and accidentally changing the drive letters. Is your system partition a primary partition or a logical drive on an extended partition? The latter will cause problems.

W2K doesn't care whether one drive is a master and the other a slave. That's not how it calculates primacy of drives. Hi ShackDaddy

Sorry to get back. Win2K is on logical drive on extended partition. I have Win Me on the primary partition. So what should I do now?

Thanks

I had this very problem. When I installed a second drive, my 2000 Professional install crashed big time. For some reason, Win2k decided to move my paging file, which was on the same partition as Windows 2000 originally. There is no way to recover. After installing the second drive I got a bsod error saying that paging file size was 0 or something to that effect. I was also set up with a dual boot configuration, and maybe the shifting of the drive letters caused the paging file problem more than windows moving the paging file to a new drive.
