We have a Raid 5 device (AR-600W; yes, the company no longer exists...), and just had a drive appear to fail. It is a 6 x 40 gig hard drive set-up. It is supposed to be hot swappable. Unfortunately, I turned the machine off, before re-placing the drive. The new drive appeared to add okay from the raid controller's perspective, but the "raid 5 check" option does not run successfully. And now the machine will not re-boot. The scsi controller sees the AR-600W Raid device. It appears to get as far as looking for the hard drive, not finding it, then just stops.

Any suggestions? If I can't get this fixed, are there any suggestions on ways I can recover the data from the drives?
