OS: Win 2003 Standard Edition SP2 with latest win updates.
Roles: DC, DHCP, DNS, File, Exchange
Problem/Issue: Some shared folders are now "Protected Operating system files"
I have folders being shared e.g.
"D:\global\Home" shared as "Home$", "D:\global\Downloads" shared as "Downloads$", "D:\global\Marketing" shared as "Marketing$" etc.
I map the drives with a batch file and all the mappings work fine. I rebooted the server last night and browsed to the "D:\global" directory I couldn't see the "Home", "Downloads" and "Marketing" folders (not the share). I did have another shared folder that I could see. I have not rebooted the server yet to see if the problem goes away. I managed to display the folders again by unchecking the "Hide Protected Operating system files" in "Tools,Folder Options, View" menu.
What could have caused this and has anybody encountered something like this before.
